Addressing a late night press conference after the meeting of MQM's Co-ordination Committee at its headquarters 'Nine-Zero', federal minister and MNA Dr Farooq Sattar said that the manifestoes of Dr Tahirul Qadri's Tehreek-e-Mihajul Quran and MQM were similar and that MQM's leader Altaf Hussain had been struggling to achieve a similar objective for the past 33 years.
Dr Farooq Sattar said that just like Dr Tahirul Qadri, MQM wanted to end feudalism in the country. "MQM, under the leadership of Altaf Hussain, has been following this programme and sent people belonging to lower and middle class to assemblies to represent the poor masses," he said.
He, however, made it clear that MQM was not in favour of delaying elections.
"This has already been made clear by Dr Tahirul Qadri who says he wants reforms in the system through an impartial caretaker set up. Similarly, MQM also stands for reforms."
Dr Farooq Sattar said MQM had for a long time wanted to bring a revolution in the country, but efforts were made to crush it and a large number of its workers and supporters were killed. "MQM, however, survived despite state oppression."-PR
